NO! Aside from breaking your glass, there are a lot of reasons why you should not do this. Side Light doors do not have a doorjamb so there is nothing for screws to hold onto. Using shorter screws makes the Jamb Shield pretty much useless. We created a kit specifically for side light doors because nothing else would work. Our Side Light Jamb Shield is L-Shaped. The stability for this piece comes from driving 3-1/2-inch screws through the face of the Jamb shield back into the sidelight jamb. Shorter screws are used to hold the Jamb Shield in place. The Hinge Shields are also much different and help to hold the entire door unit in place. Many side light doors are attached with finish nails and can simply fall into the house if kicked hard enough.
